Applying for admission to Wilmington Friends School consists of a series of simple steps, which include: the application; a parent visit; a student visit and interview; transcripts; teacher recommendations; and admissions testing.

  1. Application
Students applying for preschool through twelfth grade file an application with the admissions office, forwarding the application fee of $40.00. Those applying to middle and upper schools are also asked to complete a student questionnaire.

  2. Visiting Friends School
The parent visit, which generally includes a tour and casual introductions to some faculty and staff, is an opportunity for prospective parents to talk with the admissions staff about Friends School, its curriculum, policies, and philosophy. This visit also allows parents the opportunity to ask specific questions and convey their goals for their child's education. Students applying for the preschool will be invited for a short visit to campus with their family. All applicants for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade will be invited for a daytime visit to work with the faculty on age appropriate activities. Students who have applied for grades two through five wil be invited to visit for a full day of school and then asked to return for the following morning for admissions testing. Middle and upper school applicants are hosted by a student in their grade who will introduce them to the school and lead them through a day of classes if application is made during the school year. Students applying to middle and upper schools meet briefly during their visit day with a member of the admissions committee.

  3. Records and Recommendations
Wilmington Friends School will supply families with the necessary forms and postage-paid envelopes for requesting copies of transcripts and for teacher recommendations, or these forms can be downloaded by clicking this link. We request that parents manage this step so that they may retain complete control as to when a child's current school and teacher(s) are made aware that a child may be changing schools. IMPORTANT NOTE...Recommendation and Transcript Release forms are forwarded BY YOU to your child's current school and are then returned directly to Wilmington Friends School by each student's school and teacher(s).

  4. Admissions Testing
Applicants to the preschool will visit with an admissions representative when he/she visits the school with his/her family. Pre-kindergarten through first grade applicants will participate in age appropriate testing to be used as evaluative measures. Second through fifth grade applicants also participate in age-appropriate math and language arts testing during their admissions visit. Students applying for sixth through twelfth grades complete the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) test. Group testing dates are available for those making application before February for the following fall. Registration forms are available from the admissions office where, after February, individual testing appointments can be made. The testing fee for the ERB is $25.00.

  5. Admissions Decisions
Preschool applicants will be notified on a rolling basis once the application process is complete. Applicants to grades pre-kindergarten through fourth, whose materials are fully processed before the end of February, will be mailed an admissions decision on March 14, 2008.
Fifth through twelfth grade applicants, who have completed the admissions process by mid-January, will have decisions mailed on January 25, 2008.
All applicants to grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth, who have not completed the admissions process by the designated dates above, will be notified on a rolling basis.
