Wilmington
Friends School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school
founded in 1748 by The Religious Society of Friends. We draw our
distinctive educational philosophy from the Quaker belief that an
Inner Light resides in every human being. We have a profound respect
for this quality in each of our students, and we teach them to value
this spirit in themselves and in others. Our students learn to listen
to and draw upon this inner strength in all aspects of their lives.
At Friends School, education is a cumulative experience. Beginning
in lower school, our students have a wide range of new experiences
and engage stimulating subjects in a warm, nurturing environment.
They use their creativity and imagination to build a deeper understanding
of the world around them. Building on this foundation, our middle
school emphasizes teamwork and the transition to extended independent
learning. This is followed by the exciting, interdisciplinary challenges
of our upper school where the benefits of hard work, collaboration,
and competition are stressed. Wilmington Friends School offers an
After-School Program for pre-kindergarten through sixth graders,
and interscholastic athletics beginning in grade seven. We also
have lower and middle school summer day camps.
