The
Quakers who founded Friends School sought to provide an educational
environment in which students could enrich their intellects, strengthen
their bodies, and nurture their spirituality. WFS has remained steadfast
in adhering to the Friends' philosophy, emphasizing the importance
of educating students to live their lives for the betterment of
society and self. Quaker values, including fairness, tolerance,
simplicity, and social responsibility, permeate the academic and
co-curricular program, which is designed to develop a strong work
ethic and a lifelong love of learning. Weekly Meeting for Worship
allows students time for reflection and expressions of faith according
to their own personal beliefs. Each year, throughout the school,
the Quaker philosophy of service to the greater community becomes
an integral part of the experience in all divisions. Teachers respond
to students as they plan and implement service projects that extend
beyond WFS into the community at large. In the upper school, 50
hours of service to a volunteer agency or organization outside of
school is required of all graduates. Diversity is appreciated and
celebrated throughout the school. Students benefit from the perspectives
and contributions of a diverse student body and faculty in their
day-to-day activities as well as through structured programs such
as our Annual Diversity Week and Elder and Child Program.
