Wilmington Friends was founded by Quakers in the City of Wilmington in 1748, to serve "the children of the neighborhood"--whether those children were black or white, male or female, Quaker or not, and regardless of their families' financial resources. The Wilmington Friends Preschool, founded in 2004, is a contemporary expression of that historic commitment and of the continuing mission and identity of Wilmington Friends as a private school with a public purpose. The preschool is designed to offer a quality early childhood education and child-care program to families of diverse racial, economic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
