Wilmington Friends School, a preschool to 12 Quaker, college preparatory day school located in Wilmington, Delaware and enrolling 700 students, has an exciting employment opportunity for a full-time upper school English teacher beginning in the fall of 2018.
A highly qualified candidate is one who:
Has strong coursework (graduate level preferred) in English
Has experience teaching in an independent school
Is passionate about literature and writing and is fostering this same enthusiasm in young scholars
Is familiar with current research, trends, best practices and pedagogy
Understands and loves working with high school aged students
Is committed to and interested in working in a diverse, multicultural environment
Is willing and eager to take on significant co-curricular responsibilities outside of the classroom as assigned by the Upper School Division Head
Has experience with International Baccalaureate Diploma curriculum
Specifically, the highly qualified candidate will be able to teach all levels of English, grades 9-12. At each level, in an age appropriate manner, teachers closely examine the four prominent literary genres, the novel, essay, poetry and drama. A sampling of authors taught include: Rushdie, Oliver, Heaney, O’Connor, Chekhov, Carver, Shakespeare, Coleridge, Morrison, Turgenev, and Márquez.
