Lobby Taking Shape at the Lower School

The lower school renovation project continues to progress on schedule and as of October 30 was 38% complete in terms of contract time expended. The lobby area has seen notable advancement, with the concrete slab now poured and stone materials delivered for the exterior lobby walls.

Interior work includes ongoing drywall installation, framing, and vapor barrier installation, while the boiler room work continues as planned. Other installation progress includes steel for the HVAC units, window trims on the 1970 Wing, siding with insulation, and interior finishes with light fixtures and ceiling grids in classrooms.

Completed areas are getting fresh paint, and the team is installing stone on the exterior lobby walls.

Each week brings new surprises—like PE students spotting a cement mixer in action on their way back to class. Coco the Kangaroo, once a campus-wide hide-and-seek favorite, now “visits” classrooms by hot air balloon. Specials classes—art, music, and Spanish—have gone mobile, bringing their lessons directly to students.

And while teaching without regular access to water has been a challenge, Lower School Art Teacher Teal Rickerman shared, “I am thrilled that the Lower School is being renovated. I’m happy that the children and my colleagues will soon have classroom environments as nice as the space I’ve been lucky enough to work in for so many years.”
