    Lower School Maternity Leave Substitute

  • Lower School Math Specialist (part time)

    Wilmington Friends School, a preschool to 12th grade Quaker, college preparatory, day school located in Wilmington, Delaware, enrolling approximately 700 students, seeks a part-time lower school math specialist for the fall of 2019.
     
    The math specialist will work in partnership with our Mathematics and Computer Science Specialist, under the direction of our Lower School Learning Coordinator. The math specialist will provide push-in or pull-out small group math instruction, and will work with teachers and tutors to facilitate appropriate and coordinated support for students who may be struggling in math. The ideal candidate:
     
    Has experience teaching math at the elementary level using a Singapore math curriculum
     
    Is able to create and/or modify lesson plans to meet individual student needs
     
    Is comfortable using a variety of assessment tools to monitor progress
     
    Has demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively in a school setting
     
    Has a passion for working with students of varying abilities
     
    Is highly organized and flexible, and willing to take on other duties as assigned by the head of lower school

    Will bring imagination, a positive attitude, and energy to work with children of ranging experiences and abilities
     
    Has experience teaching writing using the Writer’s Workshop model
     
    Is familiar with Singapore math instruction
     
    Is familiar with the Responsive Classroom approach to community building and classroom management
     
    Is committed to planning and teaching interdisciplinary units in cooperation with colleagues
     
    Seeks to serve on a faculty that is involved in all areas of school life
     
    Is dedicated to upholding the Quaker ideals of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship
     
    A qualified candidate will have a minimum of an undergraduate degree, preferably in education, and classroom experience, preferably at a third grade level.

    Has strong coursework (graduate level preferred) in Spanish
    Is highly fluent in the target languages
    Has experience teaching in an independent school
    Has experience working in an immersion classroom environment
    Is passionate about the language, grammar and writing and fosters this same enthusiasm in young scholars
    Is familiar with current research, trends, best practices and pedagogy
    Understands and loves working with high school aged students
