  • Counselors

With two highly-skilled licensed and certified counselors on staff and two consulting psychologists, individual counseling for students is provided on an acute basis as referred by the student, parent/guardian, or teacher to assist with behavioral and social-emotional concerns. Our counselors also coordinate with outside-of-school supports and families to support student needs.

Our counselors consult with the Learning Resources Coordinator, teachers, and administrators to help meet student learning, social-emotional, and behavioral needs. They also provide assistance to teachers with individualized strategies for supporting children in the classroom.

  • Nursing Staff

Our two highly-skilled and compassionate school nurses are committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of our students and play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Working in partnerships with parents/guardians, they help support any new or ongoing student health issues.
  • Human Dynamics and Development

Human Dynamics and Development is a cross-divisional (lower, middle, and upper school) program at Wilmington Friends, encompassing social and emotional awareness, interpersonal relationships, academic skill development, and healthy living habits, including strategies and processes for making informed decisions.
  • Wellness Online

WFS is working with The Social Institute (TSI) whose mission is to provide “a gamified, online learning platform that empowers students to navigate their social world positively — including social media and technology — to fuel their health, happiness, and future success.”

WFS has over 35 faculty and staff members who serve as either Captains, Junior Captains, or Facilitators. In their various roles, our educators are not only learning more about social media and the numerous ways in which it can affect our students, but they are also empowering our students through age-appropriate lessons beginning in fourth grade. While the lessons might be tailored to each specific grade level, the goals are similar: for students to avoid dangerous pitfalls that come with various social media platforms, recognize all of the misinformation that is spread throughout the internet, and build each other up on social media.

  • Physical Education

Physical education for preschool through 6th grade and interscholastic athletics for grades 7-12 are an integral part of our students’ learning and central to the foundation of a healthy lifestyle.

The mission of the Physical Education Department at WFS is to promote lifelong learning through physical activity, exercise, and sport while supporting students in making health-conscious decisions, meeting challenges, and participating in mentally positive behaviors.

Participation in team sports and organized athletics helps students develop a healthy sense of self.  Through athletics, students strive toward personal and team goals, develop the self-confidence to take appropriate risks during competitive games and practices, and establish a moral and ethical sense of sportsmanship while engaged in interscholastic activities.

In addition, organized athletics provide students with opportunities for physical conditioning, social growth, acquisition of leadership skills, constructive management of stressful situations, cooperative team interactions, and enhancement and development of sport-specific physical skills.
