Middle School Football Assistant Coach

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership

• Develop and implement a comprehensive, age-appropriate football program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character.
• Plan and conduct engaging, organized, and developmentally appropriate practices focused on fundamentals, player safety, football IQ, and physical conditioning.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive team culture built on respect, accountability, discipline, and commitment.
• Work collaboratively with the varsity football coaching staff to create continuity in player development and program philosophy.

Player Development

• Provide individualized instruction and constructive feedback to help student-athletes improve their technical skills, football knowledge, and confidence.
• Encourage participation, effort, and personal growth while creating opportunities for leadership development.
• Promote good sportsmanship, resilience, and respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and the game.
• Prioritize player safety by teaching proper techniques and ensuring adherence to all school and league safety protocols.

Game Strategy and Management

• Prepare the team for competition through effective game planning and instruction.
• Manage games in a manner that emphasizes learning, development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
• Make in-game adjustments while providing positive, clear, and constructive coaching.
• Evaluate team and individual performance to identify areas for continued growth throughout the season.

Community Engagement

• Maintain open and positive communication with parents and guardians regarding team expectations and program goals.
• Serve as a positive ambassador for Wilmington Friends School and its athletic program.
• Promote the values of Quaker education through athletic competition, leadership, and sportsmanship.
• Participate in athletic department meetings and school-wide initiatives as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Previous coaching experience in football at the middle school, high school, youth, or collegiate level.
• Strong knowledge of football fundamentals, player development, and coaching techniques.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and motivate middle school student-athletes.
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and positive team environment.
• Commitment to upholding Quaker values of Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship.
• Willingness to complete all required background checks, clearances, and certifications as required by Wilmington Friends School and applicable athletic governing bodies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous playing experience in football at the high school, collegiate, or higher level.
• Experience working with middle school-aged students.
• Familiarity with Quaker educational philosophy and/or experience working in a Quaker school environment.
