2nd and 3rd Graders Take Their Learning Beyond the Classroom

During the final week of school, 2nd and 3rd graders took their learning beyond the classroom, participating in hands-on experiences that brought history and social studies to life.
Second graders discovered the story behind The Tall Ship of Delaware, Kalmar Nyckel, where they learned more about Delaware’s rich maritime history at the Copeland Maritime Center. Through interactive activities and explorations, students learned about the historic tall ship that carried the first Swedish settlers to the Delaware Valley in 1638.

As part of their National Parks study, third graders traveled to First State National Historical Park in New Castle. Students participated in programs at the New Castle Court House focused on Delaware history and even took part in a mock trial before enjoying lunch and time together at Battery Park along the Delaware River.

These memorable experiences helped students deepen their understanding of the subjects they explored all year while creating lasting connections between classroom learning and the world around them.
