Students Explore Ancient History on QUEST Service Trip to Tuscany

Students traveled on a WFS QUEST Service Trip to Tuscany, where they combined hands-on archaeological work with cultural exploration.

Each day, students worked alongside archaeologists at an ancient coastal dig site, helping uncover layers of history that spanned from a Roman military fortress to a farm, villa, and early church. Their tasks included clearing debris, cleaning and preserving artifacts like pottery, and preparing excavation areas for further study.

Beyond the dig, students deepened their understanding of Etruscan history through visits to museums, castles, and ancient burial sites, including exploring tombs dating back to the 6th and 7th centuries BCE. They also experienced Italian culture through local food, language, and daily interactions.

Evenings were spent enjoying time together—playing soccer, exploring, and reflecting on their work. The trip blended service, history, and cultural immersion, leaving students with a deeper appreciation for the ancient world and the collaborative process of discovery.
