Lower Schoolers Visit with Author Adam Perry
Fourth and fifth grade students enjoyed their visit with Adam Perry, author of The Thieving Collectors of Fine Children's Books, The Magicians of Elephant County, Ghost Come Rising, and more!
He showed the students the magic of creating a story - selecting a character and a problem to solve. They selected a character and a problem (a squirrel who wanted a boa feather scarf to impress others at his new school). The squirrel finally got a scarf but it was too big. At the end of the presentation, Adam revealed in a box a squirrel stuffed animal with a large boa feather scarf!
Adam's lesson about writing and re-writing hit home with our students. When their teacher changed her lesson to incorporate parts of Adam's talk, many students asked, "Can I change my story?" and were eager to make it better.
