Sabbatical Associate Second Grade Teacher
Wilmington Friends School is a Preschool to 12 Quaker, college preparatory, day school located in Wilmington, Delaware and enrolling approximately 700 students.
Wilmington Friends School offers a college preparatory curriculum—including athletics, the arts and community service—in which Quaker values and high expectations are mutually supportive. The defining belief of Quakerism is that there is “that of God” in everyone. Students at Friends are challenged to realize their potential: as learners, well prepared to succeed in college and career; as leaders, recognizing their power and opportunity to be agents of change; and as active and responsible members of communities, from the classroom to the world. The school seeks to serve students, age two through grade twelve, who demonstrate ongoing promise in their ability to succeed at Friends, both academically and in meeting expectations for integrity and conduct.
Wilmington Friends School seeks a Lower School Associate Teacher to support the Second Grade Lead Teacher during a sabbatical leave from September 2025 through January 2026. This is a temporary, full-time role ideal for an educator early in their teaching career, retired, or has an interest in gaining practical classroom experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the lead teacher in all aspects of classroom instruction and management
- Work with individual students or small groups across subject areas
- Take over full-class instruction when the lead teacher is unavailable
- Supervise recess and lunch
- Participate in lesson planning and curriculum implementation
- Attend and contribute to parent conferences
- Assess student work and assist with progress reports
- Participate in associate teacher professional development sessions and meetings
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience working with children and/or coursework in elementary education strongly preferred
- Commitment to collaborative teaching and supporting children’s growth
- Flexibility, initiative, and willingness to learn
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education
- Candidates from diverse backgrounds and members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) are especially encouraged to apply
