A Lower School Bee Swarm!

Lower school teachers noticed a swarm of bees on one of the fences last week and called WFS parent and beekeeper George Datto to ask what they should do.
They learned that a swarm of bees is relatively harmless and fairly common this time of year when bees are looking for a new home. George safely gathered the bees in a bee box to take them home where he put them in a hive. He answered many questions from students and estimated there were about 10,000 bees in the swarm, including the queen bee, who the male bees (drones) work to protect. Though students didn't see the queen bee, George told them that once she was in the box, the other bees would follow, and that's what they did!
