“I always mention Wilmington Friends as having an incredible influence in my life as preparation not only for college but well beyond. Acceptance and curiosity in understanding sound simple enough, but as I get older, I realize the world would benefit greatly if more people were taught those lessons at a young age.”
Philip Montigney ’07 graduated from the University of Delaware in 2011, majoring in Fine Arts. During his time in Newark, he was a member of the University of Delaware Marching Band and had the honor of marching in President Obama's inaugural parade. While pursuing his MBA from Wilmington University in 2014, Philip received an opportunity to begin his career with Moore Brothers Wine Company and hasn’t looked back.
Over the past decade, Philip has served as a Wine Associate, Manager, and now he currently works as the CFO and Director of Operations for the Moore Brothers Wine Company in Delaware. In addition to being in charge of inventory and staffing, Philip spends much of his time interacting with customers and passing along his wine education to them. He notes, “I work alongside an incredibly passionate team, and we have the privilege of representing small farm winemakers who have mastered their craft across France, Italy, Germany, Spain, California, and more. Getting to meet the farmers that we work with is always a pleasure, and then getting to reciprocate by introducing our customers to their wines is an absolute joy.”
Prior to his time at the University of Delaware, Philip was a WFS student, where he was a two-time captain of the boys’ tennis team. His advice to the Class of 2025? “Stay curious. If something interests you, it is never too early or too late in life to learn.”

Storytelling is a central theme of the lower school Visual Arts curriculum, and fourth graders are exploring that theme by experimenting with ways to communicate without using words, applying visual choices alone to convey meaning.
