Debating their partners or small-group members, they practiced listening and responding to their partner while they worked to continually connect their arguments with new examples. By using a stack of debate sentence-starter cards to start each sentence, the debate turned into a game. Students never knew if in their next sentence they were going to have to agree or disagree with what their opponent said before adding on their next point to support their own position. Students rose to the challenge and identified strategies to continue to grow and prepare for their midterm conversation exam section!
