Lower School Second Grade Lead Teacher

Wilmington Friends School, a preschool to 12th grade Quaker, college preparatory, day school located in Wilmington, Delaware, enrolling approximately 700 students, seeks a full-time second grade lead teacher who has a strong background in elementary education and a passion for encouraging creativity, and fostering academic, social-emotional, and spiritual growth.
 
Lower School teachers collaborate to help students build fundamental skills and knowledge while fostering the application of these abilities through creative endeavors aligned with our core values. 

A highly qualified candidate:
  • Will bring imagination, a positive attitude, and energy to work with children of various experiences and abilities 
  • Will have experience teaching math and is familiar with Singapore math
  • Will have experience teaching language arts, has a strong understanding of the science of reading, and some experience with the Fundations curriculum
  • Possesses excellent communication and organizational skills 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of differentiated instruction
  • Is committed to planning and teaching in collaboration with other teachers and student support personnel
  • Seeks to serve on a faculty that is committed and involved in all areas of school life
  • Is committed to communicating respectfully, clearly, and honestly in verbal, electronic, and written form with parents, administrators, and colleagues regarding curriculum, students, and child development issues  
  • Demonstrates a desire to stay current in contemporary pedagogical thinking, strategies, and techniques through further education, reading, workshops, conferences, etc.
Candidates with diverse backgrounds, candidates committed to working on diversity, equity, and inclusion in education, and members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) are particularly encouraged to apply.
