Specifically, the highly-qualified candidate will be able to teach all levels of English, grades 6-8. Skills in speaking/oral presentation, reading, writing, vocabulary development, organization, and grammar and mechanics are taught in each course. Methods include in-class essays and take-home essays (in stages of thesis statement, outline, first draft, and final draft); student multimedia presentations; dramatizations; cooperative learning groups; reading aloud, and creative writing. Teachers set high expectations for students in aspects of grammar, writing mechanics, vocabulary, and literary terminology.
We are particularly interested in hearing from qualified candidates who want to work in a school that emphasizes community-building, the value of diversity, the full development of each individual, and service to others.
If interested, please send your resume to Jonathan Huxtable, Head of Middle School (jhuxtable@wilmingtonfriends.org). We will invite, for interviews and demonstration teaching on campus, those candidates whose interests and experiences best fit our needs.
