Empowering Generations: June & July Construction Highlights

June and July marked important months at Wilmington Friends School as we launched full-scale construction on the Lower School as part of our Empowering Generations campaign. With strong early momentum, each week brought visible changes and renewed excitement for what’s ahead.
Lower School Renovations: Progress at a Glance

Throughout June, our construction partner Wohlsen made significant strides across the lower school campus. Key accomplishments included:
  • Completion of major early-phase projects, such as demolition of the HVAC system and boiler machines, framing and drywall of the new IT Room, and installation of a 4" sprinkler line for classrooms.

  • Construction of a temporary access road to support project logistics and community flow.

  • Ongoing demolition and site preparation, including removal of the existing playground and the Meeting for Worship stairs, as well as site work in the courtyard.

  • Setup for future learning spaces, including platform installation at the learning cottages, which will serve as temporary classrooms during construction.

In addition to what’s been completed, several new phases are now underway, including the demolition of the building façade and mechanical rough-ins at the new mechanical room. We’re energized by the pace of work and grateful for the resilience and support of our community.
