Reunited in Courage: Two Trailblazing Alumnae and Their Coach, United by Leadership, Service, and Legacy
Stephanie Bonnes ’04 (left) and Colleen Farrell ’04, former teammates on the WFS baseball team under Coach Bob Tattersall in 2003 and 2004, reunited with their coach at the Yale–Harvard football game.
Coach Tattersall was there to cheer on his grandsons—Robby ’23 (Yale) and Ryan ’25 (Harvard). Both Stephanie and Colleen are recipients of Wilmington Friends School’s Young Alumna of the Year Award, recognized for lives of courage, service, and leadership.
Bonnes is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of New Haven and the author of Hardship Duty (Oxford University Press, 2024), a groundbreaking examination of sexual harassment, assault, and discrimination in the U.S. military. Her award-winning scholarship centers on social justice, gender inequality, and institutional accountability.
Farrell served in the United States Marine Corps and was a former Marine Corps Captain. She was selected for the highly competitive Female Engagement Office Program. She and three other female Marines joined an ACLU lawsuit against the Department of Defense challenging the policy that barred women from serving in combat—a case that helped lead to the ban being lifted in 2013. Her career reflects the same courage and conviction she showed as a trailblazing athlete at WFS.
A huge thank you to our incredible Grounds and Building Services team for their tireless work over the past three days—morning and night—clearing snow and making sure our campus is accessible for members of our community. Your dedication, care, and behind-the-scenes efforts make a real difference!
At Wilmington Friends School, our partnership with The Social Institute (TSI) supports students, families, faculty, and staff in navigating the digital world with intention and care.
Over winter break, the Wilmington Friends After-School Program hosted three festive days of child care filled with creativity, celebration, and community.
Mrs. Agne’s 8th-grade U.S. History class visited East Side Charter School’s APEX Honors Program for a “pop-up debate” as part of an ongoing exchange between the two programs.
Kindergarten students celebrated El Dia de los Reyes (Three Kings Day) by wearing their "coronas" and leaving their shoes outside of their classroom in anticipation and hopes that the Three Kings would swing by WFS and leave treats! They were in luck!
WFS archivist and longtime teacher Terry Maguire recently enjoyed tea and conversation with alumnus John Bonifaz ’84—reconnecting over shared history and a lifelong commitment to purpose-driven work.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Alumni & Friends Holiday Singing Meeting for Worship last week. It was wonderful to welcome so many familiar faces back on campus and to share in a meaningful time of reflection and song.
