* Applying During the Summer Months
During the summer months, we are in a rolling admissions process. We will work as quickly as we can to notify you of an admissions decision following receipt of all application materials. Typically, you can expect a response within ten days of completing your application.
If you have applied for financial aid, please let us know and you will receive notice of a financial aid decision at the same time as an admission notification.
Applying for admission to Wilmington Friends School consists of the following steps, which include: the application; a parent visit; a student visit and interview; transcripts; teacher recommendations; and admissions testing. International students may participate in a Skype call instead of a campus visit.
Students applying file an online application through our website; there is an application fee of $50.00, which can be paid electronically. Those applying to middle and upper schools are also asked to complete a student questionnaire and provide a graded writing sample.
Visiting Friends School
The family visit, which generally includes a tour and casual introductions to some faculty and staff, is an opportunity for you to talk with the admissions staff about Friends School, our curriculum, policies, and philosophy. This visit also allows for the opportunity to ask specific questions and convey specific goals for your child's education.
Preschool (Age 2 1/2 years)
Students who have made application to our preschool will visit with their families. All applicants whose materials are fully processed before the end of January will be notified of an admissions decision on February 2, 2018 (contract return date 2/16/18).
Pre-kindergarten through Kindergarten
Students who have made application to pre-kindergarten and kindergarten will be invited to visit Friends to work with faculty on age-appropriate activities. The visit will consist of a series of thoughtful observations and testing to be used as evaluative measures.* All applicants whose materials are fully processed before the end of January will be notified of an admissions decision on February 2, 2018 (contract return date 2/16/18).
First through Fourth Grade
Students applying to first through fourth grade visit lower school and are hosted by a current student for a full school day. Age-appropriate math and language arts testing will be administered during the visit day.* All applicants whose materials are fully processed before the end of January will be notified of an admissions decision on February 2, 2018 (contract return date 2/16/18).
Fifth through Twelfth Grade
Students applying to fifth through twelfth grade are invited to visit the appropriate division for a full day. Their host, a current student, will introduce them to the school and lead them through a day of classes. During their visit, students applying to sixth through twelfth grade meet briefly with a member of the admissions committee. Students applying for fifth through twelfth grade complete the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). Group testing dates are available for these grades; registrants must apply online at www.iseetest.org at least one week prior to the testing date. All applicants to grades five through 12 whose materials are fully processed by mid-January will be notified of an admissions decision on January 19, 2018 (contract return date 2/9/18).
Records and Recommendations
The release of information form and recommendation forms will be sent to you via email when you apply. This will enable you to send them to your child’s school and teacher(s) electronically. We request that parents manage this step so that they may retain complete control as to when a child’s current school and teacher(s) are made aware that a child may be changing schools.
Recommendation and Information Release forms are forwarded BY YOU to your child's current school and are then returned directly to Wilmington Friends School by each student's school and teacher(s). Forms can be sent via email or facsimile.
All applicants, who have not completed the admissions process by the designated dates above will be notified on a rolling basis when a file is complete.
