Middle School Students Connect Language, Creativity, and Nature

During a recent middle school Forest Time (Shinrin-yoku) experience, students embraced learning and reflection in the woods following a light dusting of snow.
Co-proctored by middle school Chinese teacher Jianglin Shi and middle school Spanish teacher Laura Jersild Pardo ’90, the outing invited students to slow down, observe, and connect with nature.

One special moment came after students spotted a fox in the forest. Inspired, sixth graders and Chinese students Kylie Sanderson ’32 and Alana Jefferson ’32 created a beautiful snow drawing of a fox accompanied by Chinese characters—blending language learning, creativity, and mindful observation.
