Middle School Students Celebrate International Day of Peace
Middle school students celebrated International Day of Peace on Friday with guest speaker Emily Hershman David ’09.
Emily’s presentation, titled “Peace Through Literacy,” highlighted the importance of promoting literacy in all communities as a way to invest in peace for all people. She also noted the various ways middle school students can get involved in creating a more literate society in Delaware, and the possibilities these actions can bring.
During advisory, students thought more about Emily’s presentation and asked themselves the following questions: What do all people need to have peace? What can we as individuals do to find peace or help provide opportunities for peace for others? After journaling and sharing their ideas with classmates, students left advisory with a concrete plan for how they can promote peace, both individually and as a group.
They ended the day by playing large-group games, including kickball, ultimate frisbee, tag, and board games. This provided an excellent opportunity to practice peaceful actions and be good teammates.

Smart Machines Classes Compete in Cup-Stacking Challenge
