IB Diploma Kickoff: 29 Juniors Embrace Academic Rigor, Global Perspective, and Collaboration

29 members of our Junior Class officially kicked off their IB Diploma Journey on Wednesday evening.
Students did a self-evaluation on the 10 IB Learner Attributes, participated in three micro-lessons on the Core elements of the IB program (Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and the CAS program), and listened to advice from IB teachers on how they should keep an open mind towards viewpoints and feedback, avoid procrastinating, and lean on each other for support during times of duress.

At Wilmington Friends School, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme prepares students for the highest levels of college-preparatory education. As the first school in Delaware authorized to offer the IB Diploma Programme in 2002, Friends integrates the IB philosophy of academic rigor, global perspective, and engaged citizenship into its Upper School. Through the signature Theory of Knowledge course, the extended essay project, and the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) program, students cultivate resilience, critical thinking, and respect for diverse perspectives. By combining IB coursework across six subject areas with meaningful service learning and a focus on collaboration, our students graduate prepared for success in college and beyond.
