Civic Discourse in Action: 8th Graders Engage in Pop-Up Debate with East Side Charter’s APEX Honors Program

Mrs. Agne’s 8th-grade U.S. History class visited East Side Charter School’s APEX Honors Program for a “pop-up debate” as part of an ongoing exchange between the two programs.
Students engaged in thoughtful, student-led discussions around timely civic questions, including whether schools should discipline students for off-campus behavior, whether the death penalty should be abolished, and whether law enforcement should be allowed to use facial recognition technology.

Through respectful dialogue and critical thinking, students practiced listening across differences, articulating evidence-based arguments, and engaging in meaningful civic discourse.
