5th Grade Students Build Ceramic Slab Containers

5th-grade students designed and built ceramic slab containers in art class with Teacher Teal, applying many math skills learned in their home base classroom. 
They measured geometric shapes with a ruler and organic shapes with a string and ruler. Since they were given size restrictions, they also had to use their division and fraction skills.  Each student made a unique design, for instance, a triangular form becoming a slice of pie with the lid handle resembling a dollop of whipped cream or a rectangular form becoming a deck of cards or a cell phone.
