“Wilmington Friends School prepared me to get the job done. Whatever task it may be, I am not afraid to take it on and give it my fullest effort. The worst you can do is learn. My WFS education also instilled the Quaker values such as integrity and stewardship through example and engagement, both in the classroom and in the community. I also learned the importance of asking questions not only to learn but to challenge others to do the right thing regardless of what it looks like.”
Nathaniel Huxtable ’22 is a senior student-athlete at The College of Wooster. This summer, he worked as a Foundation Intern at The Home Depot. He and his team developed training resources to increase volunteer engagement within Team Depot. They established project partnerships nationwide for the Celebration of Service Campaign, building connections that supported annual efforts to strengthen communities in need. He also played in the Sunbelt League with the Atlanta Crackers, helping them win the 2025 Sunbelt League Championship.
On the baseball diamond this spring, the Political Science major had an excellent season for the Fighting Scots. He helped lead the team to the NCAC Championship game; Huxtable appeared in 33 games, recorded 32 hits, had a .396 on-base percentage, and scored 22 runs.
Fourth graders became geologists this week! Given samples of unknown minerals, they put their observation and problem-solving skills to work by examining properties such as texture, color, and shape—then testing hardness to identify each mineral sample.
For Spirit Week Sports Connections, upper and middle school athletes visited the lower school, introducing students to cross country, field hockey, football, soccer, and volleyball.
Last week, our middle schoolers took part in their annual Bonding Day, though our seventh graders might argue that “Building Day” is a more appropriate name.
At WFS, our early learning program lays the foundation for student-initiated exploration, creative thinking, collaboration, and a learning community rooted in mutual respect and responsibility.
With over 45 clubs and committees, WFS upper school students have endless opportunities to get involved, build leadership skills, and pursue their passions beyond the classroom.

WFS boys’ soccer players welcomed lower school students at carline and helped walk them to their classrooms. They also joined in games on the playground, from soccer to basketball, before the start of classes. From carline to classroom to playground, WFS students of all ages share experiences that foster joy and connection.

At Wilmington Friends School, our faculty and student support staff collaborate regularly to ensure that every student experiences a smooth, thoughtful transition into high school. Recently, 9th graders rotated through three workshops:
Advanced/IB Chemistry students in Sarah O’Brien’s class recently crafted their own “stir rods” by cutting glass tubing, sealing one end in a Bunsen burner, and adding their chosen decorations—from pipe cleaners to glitter and beads—before finishing with a sealed closure.
Last week, our 10th- and 11th-grade students had the opportunity to participate in meaningful college guidance activities that reflect Wilmington Friends School’s personalized, student-centered approach to the college process.
