From Observation to Discovery: Fourth Grade Geologists

Fourth graders became geologists this week!  Given samples of unknown minerals, they put their observation and problem-solving skills to work by examining properties such as texture, color, and shape—then testing hardness to identify each mineral sample.
This hands-on investigation is part of our Earth materials unit, where students will also map Earth’s features, explore how natural forces like water, wind, and ice shape the land, and learn how humans can help reduce their impact.

The unit is part of our comprehensive fourth-grade science curriculum, offering hands-on, exploratory science and engineering experiences.
