Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Students from all three divisions have celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month in October!
As part of Culture Quest in the lower school, students read a story about paletas (popsicles) from Mexico, making some out of paper and enjoying the real thing! They also created papel picado, a traditional Mexican decorative craft.

Fifth graders met with Jorge Pardo, President and CEO of Vamonos Tours Inc. Sr. Pardo shared what life is like in Puerto Rico and Cuba. Students also had the opportunity to talk by phone with his cousin in Cuba, asking questions about his life and what it’s like to live there.

Eighth graders learned how to salsa dance with local instructor, Joe Figueroa. The salsa connection was one way middle school students recognized Hispanic Heritage Month, and they will continue that on the world language trip to Puerto Rico in June 2027, where students will explore music and dance as part of the program.

The upper school Spanish Club celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by listening to Spanish music and having a feast that included tarta de Santiago (almond cake from Spain) and gazpacho.
