Introduction

WFS is seeking a passionate and experienced coach to lead our Boys’ Tennis program, guiding student-athletes to achieve their full potential both on and off the court.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership:
Develop and implement a comprehensive, age-appropriate tennis program that prioritizes skill development, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Plan and execute effective practice sessions focused on technical skill development, match play, strategy, and physical conditioning.
Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that values respect, discipline, and commitment.
Collaborate with other members of the athletic department to ensure a cohesive approach to player development and program alignment.
Player Development:
Provide individualized instruction and feedback to student-athletes to improve stroke mechanics, footwork, match strategy, and mental toughness.
Identify and nurture talent within the program, offering opportunities for growth, competitive development, and leadership.
Instill values of sportsmanship, fair play, and resilience, preparing student-athletes to excel both on and off the court.
Game and Match Management:
Develop and implement effective match strategies for both individual and team competition.
Provide clear, constructive guidance during matches while promoting composure and sportsmanship.
Evaluate match performance and use data and observation to inform future practice plans and lineup decisions.
Community Engagement:
Engage with parents, guardians, and the broader school community to foster support for the Boys Tennis program.
Serve as a positive ambassador for Wilmington Friends School, modeling Quaker values through competition and conduct.
Participate in school-wide events and initiatives, contributing to the overall mission and ethos of the school.
Qualifications
Previous coaching experience at the high school level or equivalent, with a demonstrated ability to develop student-athletes.
Strong knowledge of tennis fundamentals, match strategy, and coaching methodologies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor, motivate, and connect with student-athletes.
Commitment to upholding Quaker values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship.
Willingness to undergo background checks and fulfill all requirements mandated by the school and relevant athletic associations.
Preferred Qualifications
Coaching certification from a recognized tennis organization (e.g., USTA or equivalent).
Competitive playing experience at the collegiate level or beyond.
Familiarity with Quaker educational philosophy and/or experience working in a Quaker school environment.

Over winter break, the Wilmington Friends After-School Program hosted three festive days of child care filled with creativity, celebration, and community.
Mrs. Agne’s 8th-grade U.S. History class visited East Side Charter School’s APEX Honors Program for a “pop-up debate” as part of an ongoing exchange between the two programs.
