The WFS girls’ soccer team defeated St. Mark’s 4-1 on Sunday afternoon to capture the DIAA Division 2 State Championship!
Six minutes into the contest, Gianna Cottone ’26 passed the ball to Lucy White ’27, who fired a shot inside the right post to put Friends up 1-0. After the Spartans responded quickly to tie it at 1-1, Kate Weigand ’29 scored off an assist from Ryan Weigand ’26 in the tenth minute to put the Quakers up 2-1. White added her second goal in the 26th minute, scoring from about 35 yards out and placing the ball over the Keeper’s head in the top left corner. K. Weigand added her second goal—and the final goal of the match— off of a free-kick strike in the 28th minute.
Teagan O’Donnell ’29 posted six saves. The backline of Sara Clothier ’26, Anna Weiner ’26, Noura Boland ’29, and Clara Kurz ’29 continued to prove themselves as one of the top defensive units in the State, limiting scoring opportunities for the Spartans.
The Quakers finished the 2026 season with an overall record of 16-2-1, the most wins in program history. They also scored the most goals in the State of Delaware this season (102) and produced the school’s longest winning streak (13 games).
Individually, multiple WFS players etched their names into the record books:
