Building Confidence for the College Journey

Last week, our 10th- and 11th-grade students had the opportunity to participate in meaningful college guidance activities that reflect Wilmington Friends School’s personalized, student-centered approach to the college process.
Our comprehensive college counseling program begins well before senior year, helping students build self-awareness, academic planning skills, and decision-making confidence.

Associate Director of College Guidance Rose Gnade worked with 10th-grade students to begin exploring their academic goals, potential majors, and different types of colleges. She concluded with a rousing "Sweet 16" bracket activity with our sophomores.

Director of College Guidance Kathleen Martin met with juniors. 11th graders began the afternoon with a "college fit" movement sequence, moving to various college factors (size, location, "vibe," etc.) Next, the juniors participated in a "mystery" college fair, which allowed them to explore college factors without the college names, so they could think about what criteria are critical to them in their college experience. Finally, the juniors heard from a guest speaker, Cassidy Martin '15, via Zoom, about how to maximize the benefits of a college visit at WFS.
