Reunited in Courage: Two Trailblazing Alumnae and Their Coach, United by Leadership, Service, and Legacy

Stephanie Bonnes ’04 (left) and Colleen Farrell ’04, former teammates on the WFS baseball team under Coach Bob Tattersall in 2003 and 2004, reunited with their coach at the Yale–Harvard football game. 
Coach Tattersall was there to cheer on his grandsons—Robby ’23 (Yale) and Ryan ’25 (Harvard). Both Stephanie and Colleen are recipients of Wilmington Friends School’s Young Alumna of the Year Award, recognized for lives of courage, service, and leadership.
 
Bonnes is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of New Haven and the author of Hardship Duty (Oxford University Press, 2024), a groundbreaking examination of sexual harassment, assault, and discrimination in the U.S. military. Her award-winning scholarship centers on social justice, gender inequality, and institutional accountability.
 
Farrell served in the United States Marine Corps and was a former Marine Corps Captain. She was selected for the highly competitive Female Engagement Office Program. She and three other female Marines joined an ACLU lawsuit against the Department of Defense challenging the policy that barred women from serving in combat—a case that helped lead to the ban being lifted in 2013. Her career reflects the same courage and conviction she showed as a trailblazing athlete at WFS.
