Quakerism Classes Visit Wilmington Monthly Meeting and Centre Friends Meeting

10th-grade Quakerism classes visited two Quaker meeting houses: Wilmington Monthly Meeting and Centre Friends Meeting.
Students learned about the historical connection between Wilmington Friends School and Wilmington Meeting at Fourth and West Streets (the original site of WFS), the role of Quakers in the early settlement of Wilmington, and the fact that several members of Wilmington Meeting were active abolitionists in the 1800s. At Centre Meeting, they participated in a brief Meeting for Worship and explored the graveyard and historic schoolhouse. The trips highlighted the contrast between a large urban meeting and one in a more rural setting.
