10th Graders Explore African American History at Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.

As part of our American History course curriculum, all 10th grade students visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. last week.
The visit to the museum helped students deepen their understanding and appreciation for the rich and varied history of African Americans in the United States and make connections to specific individuals and units of study within our course: slavery, resistance, art, music, civil rights, education, politics, economic advancement, military service, media, and sports. Students moved through the museum in their small advisory groups and completed a note-taking guide during the visit, which helped them connect with at least three specific exhibits. Students participated in a class discussion and reflection the next day.
