Inspiring the Next Generation: Rep. Sarah McBride Meets with WFS 8th Graders

WFS 8th graders had the incredible opportunity to meet virtually with Congresswoman Sarah McBride, Delaware’s at-large representative and a lifelong resident dedicated to public service.
Representative McBride shared how her love for Delaware politics began when she was a middle schooler herself, participating in Youth in Government at Cab Calloway and learning how to legislate. She spoke candidly about her journey—how questions of belonging shaped her path, how mentors like Jack Markell and Beau Biden influenced her work, and how the history of advocates who fought injustice continues to inspire her in Washington.

WFS students also learned about the realities of life in public office: representing more than one million Delawareans in the U.S. House; championing healthcare, housing, education, and dignity for all; and navigating challenging conversations with people who agree and disagree. She reminded students that “hard things are hard,” but progress comes from those willing to do meaningful, uncomfortable work.

Thank you to Representative McBride for taking the time and encouraging our students to stay engaged, stay curious, and believe in their ability to make change.
