Reunited in Courage: Two Trailblazing Alumnae and Their Coach, United by Leadership, Service, and Legacy
Stephanie Bonnes ’04 (left) and Colleen Farrell ’04, former teammates on the WFS baseball team under Coach Bob Tattersall in 2003 and 2004, reunited with their coach at the Yale–Harvard football game.
Coach Tattersall was there to cheer on his grandsons—Robby ’23 (Yale) and Ryan ’25 (Harvard). Both Stephanie and Colleen are recipients of Wilmington Friends School’s Young Alumna of the Year Award, recognized for lives of courage, service, and leadership.
Bonnes is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of New Haven and the author of Hardship Duty (Oxford University Press, 2024), a groundbreaking examination of sexual harassment, assault, and discrimination in the U.S. military. Her award-winning scholarship centers on social justice, gender inequality, and institutional accountability.
Farrell served in the United States Marine Corps and was a former Marine Corps Captain. She was selected for the highly competitive Female Engagement Office Program. She and three other female Marines joined an ACLU lawsuit against the Department of Defense challenging the policy that barred women from serving in combat—a case that helped lead to the ban being lifted in 2013. Her career reflects the same courage and conviction she showed as a trailblazing athlete at WFS.
First graders gathered for the annual monarch butterfly migration, a beloved, cross-curricular tradition for both students and teachers that connects science, Spanish, and art classes.
Congratulations to Palmer Jenney ’30 on being named Delaware Online Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performances last week! Jenney scored five goals across the Quakers' victories over Sanford, St. Andrew’s, and Archmere.
3rd-grade students explored the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) as they continue to study the Quaker testimony of Stewardship throughout the school year.
On the evening of Friday, October 23, WFS community members gathered in the Library Learning Commons for a night of community, music, and recognition at the All Alumni Reception. Guests enjoyed dinner, a lively performance by the upper school Jazz Band, celebrating the 1980s field hockey teams and 50 years of cross country, and recognition of this year’s alum award recipients.
It was wonderful to welcome the Wilmington Friends School Class of 1976 back to campus to celebrate its 50th reunion! Throughout Homecoming Weekend, classmates reconnected, reminisced, and celebrated the friendships and experiences from their time at WFS.
Thank you to all in our community for a wonderful Homecoming 2026! It was great to have so many current families, alumni, and friends on campus for the festivities.
