Swimming Takes Second, Two School Records Broken

It was a great day for WFS athletics as both swim teams placed second at the DISC meet and two school records were broken at the 2024 DIAA Indoor Track & Field State Championships!
Swimming: It was another great DISC meet for the WFS swim program as both teams placed second! The boys’ team earned 76 points while the girls’ team posted 84 points. The following swimmers earned gold in their respective individual events: Jalen Stewart ’24 (50 free), Conner Verbanas ’25 (500 free), Aubrey Ashman ’26 (100 breast), Kylie Poole ’28 (100 back), and Ellie Romano ’28 (100 fly).

The following relays for the WFS girls’ team also earned first place: 200 medley relay (Poole, Ashman, Romano, and Pamela Moore ’27) and 200 free relay (Romano, Moore, Ashman, and Poole).

The following WFS swimmers earned top-five finishes in their individual events DISC meet on Saturday:
Jalen Stewart ’24: 50 free (1st), 100 free (2nd)
Tyler Wilmore ’24: 200 IM (2nd), 100 breast (2nd)
Jillian Farley ’25: 100 back (5th)
Lorne McDonnell ’25: 100 back (3rd), 500 free (5th)
Conner Verbanas ’25: 500 free (1st), 200 free (2nd)
Aubrey Ashman ’26: 100 breast (1st), 200 IM (2nd)
Theo Lawrence ’26: 200 IM (5th)
Rose Mulveny ’26: 200 IM (5th), 100 breast (5th)
Kenzie Wilson ’26: 50 free (5th)
Pamela Moore ’27: 200 free (4th), 100 free (4th)
Cael McDonnell ’28: 500 free (3rd)
Kylie Poole ’28: 100 back (1st), 200 free (2nd)
Ellie Romano ’28: 100 fly (1st), 100 back (3rd)

The following relays secured top -three finishes at the DISC meet on Saturday:
200 medley relay: 2nd place (Lorne McDonnell ’25, Theo Lawrence ’26, Gavin Jefferson ’26, and Andrew McKenzie ’24)
200 free relay: 3rd place (Wilmore, Devin Wallace ’24, Verbanas, and Stewart)
400 free relay: 2nd place (Stewart, Lawrence, Verbanas, and Wilmore)

Indoor Track: The WFS indoor track & field team traveled to Prince George’s Sports Complex to compete in the 2024 DIAA State Championships this afternoon. Cereniti Johnson ’26 was outstanding for WFS, breaking the school record in the 400 meter dash and placing 5th overall. Declan Grubb ’24, Hayden Land ’24, Zae Turman ’24, and Brian Gainer ’25 set the boys' 4x400 school record. 
 
Turman also placed 11th in the triple jump while Brina Abere ’25 finished 13th in the high jump.
