8th Grade Vegetable Garden

The 8th-grade Chinese class's vegetable garden continues to grow!
This year, students are taking part in an interdisciplinary garden project that naturally blends language learning with science. As they plant, observe, and harvest vegetables, students use Chinese to label plants, describe growth stages, and discuss their observations, making their language learning meaningful, interactive, and tied to real-world experiences.

Last week, students took their learning a step further by studying compost. Using apple peels, cores, and paper scraps from the 6th-grade Pie Bake, they created nutrient-rich compost to support the garden's continued growth. This hands-on work deepens their scientific understanding of plant life cycles while reinforcing Chinese vocabulary connected to nature, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
The vegetables are thriving, and the project is flourishing as an excellent example of how language, science, and experiential learning come together at WFS.
