Cross Country: A Season of Growth and Championship-Level Performances

The WFS middle school cross country team capped off a fantastic fall season filled with growth and standout performances. After their strong start, the Quakers continued to push themselves in every practice and meet, resulting in numerous personal records and several team course records.

The season culminated in an impressive showing at the DISC Championship meet, where five WFS runners finished inside the top 20. From steady pacing to confident finishing kicks, each athlete demonstrated the progress they’ve made since the first day of training.

Coach Chris Verry shared throughout the fall how focused and committed this group has been, and that dedication was on full display as the season wrapped up. Every runner contributed to a supportive, team-centered culture that helped elevate individual and collective success.

Congratulations to our middle school Quakers on an outstanding season. We’re proud of your hard work, your improvement, and the way you represented Wilmington Friends School at every meet.

Together, the squads earned six wins, four ties, and nine shutouts, demonstrating disciplined defense, sharp passing, and a commitment to improving every time they stepped on the field.

Football: Making the Most of Every Opportunity

The Wilmington Friends School middle school football team wrapped up a short but meaningful two-game season this fall, making the most of every snap. With a committed group of student-athletes, the Quakers showed strong growth, resilience, and teamwork throughout the season.

Head Coach Don Morton ’94 shared, “Our players showed great effort and enthusiasm from day one. They continued to support each other, develop their skills, and improve with each practice and each game. We’re proud of the determination they brought to the field.”

The Quakers embraced every opportunity to compete, learn, and represent WFS with pride. Their hard work, steady improvement, and positive team culture were the true highlights of the season.

Soccer: Balanced Play and Strong Team Unity

The Wilmington Friends School Middle School soccer program closed out a strong fall season, with both the A and B teams carrying forward the momentum they built earlier in the year. The Quakers scored three or more goals in six matches, including a season-high six against Tatnall. From sharp combination play to confident finishing, the group showed meaningful growth in its attacking rhythm as the season progressed.

Defensively, WFS was just as steady. Across their four victories and three ties, the Quakers allowed only ten goals in seven contests—an impressive testament to discipline, communication, and collective effort. Coach Sean Kerrane reflected on the group’s unity, noting, “Players have supported each other throughout the season and there has been a wonderful togetherness that has transcended wins, losses, and draws.”

Congratulations to all of our Middle School players on a season defined by effort, growth, and high-quality soccer. We’re proud of the way you represented Wilmington Friends School on and off the field.
