Middle School Students Compete in Lego League Tournament

The middle school team competed in the First Lego League qualifying tournament on Saturday!
The students had to build and code a robot to complete a series of tasks in 2 minutes and 30 seconds to earn as many points as possible. They also had to design an innovation that would solve a real-world problem in archeology. The 7th and 8th graders developed a website to raise awareness of the social justice issue of indigenous people’s remains and artifacts being kept by museums and universities rather than returned to their tribes. The 6th graders imagined a new and improved X-ray machine that would be strong enough to pass through deep layers of soil and rock to reveal hidden fossils or dinosaur skeletons without having to dig. Congratulations to all the students on their hard work, especially the 6th-grade team, which earned a special judges’ award for being “Small but Mighty,” despite over half of the team not being able to participate in Saturday’s competition.
