IB Visual Arts Students Explore “Sense of Place” with Photographer Angie Gray

IB Visual Arts students recently welcomed professional photographer and WFS parent Angie Gray to their classes for a hands-on critique experience.
As part of their lesson from Angie, students explored the concept of “sense of place”—using a range of photographic techniques to capture not just what a place looks like, but what it feels like and what it means. Students were challenged to shoot with intention, vary perspective, and ultimately present a series of images that tell a cohesive story.

Drawing inspiration from renowned photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, Ansel Adams, and Neil Leifer, students are developing both their technical skills and artistic voice as they build toward their final projects. Angie shared her expertise drawn from photographing around the world while offering thoughtful critiques of student work, helping students refine their ideas and deepen their artistic approach. It was a valuable experience as students continue to develop their portfolios and creative voices.

You can check out all of their completed photos on our SmugMug page (password in Friends on Friday). Thank you to Angie for helping with this project!
