Middle School Students Explore Earth and Life Sciences Through Active Investigation
Check out what our middle school students have been up to in their respective science classes!
7th-grade Earth and Space Science students reviewed units of measurement last week by using different instruments. Students found an object's volume using the water displacement method with a graduated cylinder; used a quadruple beam balance to measure the mass of solids and liquids; and used a meter stick to measure objects. The Earth and Space Science course continues to develop students' understanding of Earth systems through collaborative work, including simulations, models, mathematical applications, and STEAM design activities.
8th-grade Life Science students are studying why leaves change color in the fall. As part of this study, they recently spent time recording observations for their six-week longitudinal study of changes in leaves and trees. Eighth-grade Life Science is a multidisciplinary, phenomenon-based introduction to the study of living things. Students brainstorm and practice inquiry and critical-thinking skills via laboratory investigations, research, and cooperative activities. This course covers topics in anatomy, photosynthesis, pigment chromatography, microscopy, weather conditions, and cell biology.
Today, seniors met with their first-grade buddies on the lower school playground and enjoyed playing 4-square, climbing on the “Big Toy,” and much more!
Congratulations to Pamela Moore ’27 on winning Delaware Online Athlete of the Week for her excellent performance last week against St. Andrew’s. Moore had three kills, one ace, one block, eight digs and 17 assists in a 3-1 win over St. Andrew's. She also surpassed 1,000 career assists.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Saturday’s Home & School Back-to-School Picnic, and to the volunteers who made it possible! From bouncy houses to face painting and dance parties, the afternoon was filled with laughter and joy.
On Saturday, September 26, 2026, we officially celebrated the opening of our reimagined lower school campus! Guests gathered in the lobby and checked out the beautiful panda donor wall.
HL IB Biology year two students used CRISPR/Cas9 technology in their latest gene knockout lab to disrupt a gene in bacteria and observe a phenotypic change as a result.
The library was jam-packed with students this morning during the annual upper school Clubs and Committees Fair! During the fair, students have forty minutes to learn about the numerous clubs and committees on campus (we had over 50 during last school year).
Congratulations to Ronny Berry ’27 on winning the Delaware Online Football Athlete of the Week for his excellent performance last week against Delmar. Berry intercepted two passes, returned one for a touchdown, gained 89 total yards of offense, and caught a touchdown pass.
