9th Grade Author Visit

Ninth graders recently met with Abdi Nor Iftin, author of their summer reading book, Call Me American, which depicts Abdi's life in Somalia and his curiosity about Western culture, which ultimately became dangerous and led to him fleeing the country.
Abdi discussed the reasons he decided to write his book, explaining the danger that his family experiences regularly, largely because of the book he wrote, and how he supports and communicates with them. He stated that the reason for writing came partially from his mother, who said that even though his experiences are in his past, they are not done for those still in Somalia. Lastly, he fielded questions from the group who asked about his affinity for American culture, relationship with his father, and more. Thank you to Abdi for taking the time to meet with our students!
