A culminating part of fifth grade at WFS is the spring field trip to New York City!
Students visited the New York Historical Society Museum and Library, going to the Slavery in New York and Immigration City exhibits to learn more about what they discussed this spring in their slavery and immigration units in social studies. Students also got to explore the Strawberry Fields area of Central Park!
Over the course of the last five years, the middle school has engaged in a series of experiences to strengthen student's intercultural competencies and appreciation for the diversity of the personal stories each person contributes to the community.

In 2007, WFS became the first high school in Delaware accepted as a member of the School Year Abroad (SYA) consortium, a national group of leading independent schools with a commitment to international education.
The WFS football and soccer teams hosted athletes from Special Olympics Delaware (SODE) in mid-August. In the clinics, the athletes participated in drills together, learned a lot, and had a blast! This tradition is something that WFS student athletes and Special Olympians look forward to each year and is a great way to for them to connect.
Congratulations to lower school teacher Sia Willie who was named a 2022-23 Pilot Light Food Education Fellow! From their website, "Food Education Fellows are leaders in food education across the nation. Fellows implement weekly Pilot Light lessons, create new Pilot Light resources, and help to refine and evaluate what Pilot Light and food education looks like in classrooms."
Isabelle Bohner '24 and Abby Saliman '24 represented WFS last week at the University of Delaware's Governor's School for Excellence. This is a one-week summer residential program taught by university professors that brings together academically and artistically talented rising high school juniors in Delaware. Students live in residence halls and attend either the academic program, consisting of discussions, lectures and debates, or the arts program, which provides tutorial instruction and culminates in a special performance. Students are nominated through their schools through a competitive application process. Isabelle attended for vocal music and Abby attended for academics.
