Summer Programs

Big Kids (Grades 2-5)

Big Kids (2nd through 5th grades)

June 18 - August 24, 2018
$300/week for Base
Pro-rated for the week of July 2-6
(camp is closed July 4) 

Camp Hours: 9:00am to 4:30pm (drop off begins at 8:30am)
Before Camp Care: 7:30 to 8:30am, $15/week ($12 for the week of July 2-6)
After Camp Care: 4:30 to 6:00pm, $50/week ($40 for the week of July 2-6)

Morning Activities

 
The regular morning schedule--for campers not participating in specialty camps except for Reading--will consist of three structured activities and a snack. Campers will divide into age appropriate groups to attend each morning session.

Thematic
Themed morning sessions will be taught in small groups of 15 to 25 campers by our expert teacher of the week. These sessions will include an activity presented to support the growing minds of our campers and will engage the creativity and curiosity within each child. Though these ten weekly themes are generally paired, campers are welcome to enroll in whichever weeks best suit their interests and scheduling needs. Physical Education
Each morning, campers will engage in focused, physical activity. We will stretch muscles and bodies with activities like basketball, tag games, soccer, tumbling, throwing and catching, and running. Children will have the opportunity to participate in a different physical activity each day of the week. In competitive and noncompetitive games, campers will develop cooperation and communication skills. This daily session will combine physical education with the fun of recess.

Arts & Crafts
We will have a block of time each morning dedicated to arts and crafts. This is a time when your child can explore his or her creative side, working with a variety of media. Projects will be led by an art teacher, and will include all sorts of materials such as paint, clay, and pastels.
 

Afternoon Activities

All campers--except those in Local Adventure--participate in afternoon activities, including:  

Swimming: Monday through Thursday
Time spent at the pool is part of our daily routine and will consist of an hour of fun at Arden Swim Club. The main pool is a 25-meter six-lane pool that features a springboard, a slide, and basketball hoop. Formal lessons are not provided, however, our trained staff assist any campers who are new to swimming.

Ice-Skating: Tuesday and Thursday
The camp will bus to the Wilmington Skating Club twice each week. The teachers at the Wilmington Skating Club provide excellent instruction for campers at any skating level. Each session will include 30-minute lessons followed by "free skate." Skates are provided.

Bowlerama Wednesdays!
Each Wednesday, the camp will bus to the local bowling alley. Bumpers are optional, and shoes are provided.
  


Location: The Lower School Day Camp is located at the Lower School campus of Wilmington Friends School, just off Granite Road in Alapocas. On-site facilities include a large multipurpose gym, two art/computer/activity rooms, a kitchen, locker rooms, and outdoor fields and play equipment. 
 
Clothing and Toys: Children should wear cool, comfortable, weather appropriate clothes to camp, and be prepared for both outdoor and indoor activities. All campers must wear sneakers and socks. Please do not send your child to camp in sandals. Campers will not need to bring toys to camp. While it is appropriate for our Mighty Munchkin campers to bring a favorite blanket or stuffed animal to help them relax during quiet time, all other toys and electronic devices are prohibited from being brought to camp. 
 
Absences: If your child is going to be absent, please call (302) 576-2998 after 7:30 a.m. to inform the camp staff. 
 
Lunches and Snacks: Snack will be provided to all campers in the mid-morning and to those enrolled in After-Camp Care. Water or juice is available throughout the day. Campers will need to provide their own lunches in insulated bags or coolers. Please pack lunches that do not require additional refrigeration or heat. On Wednesdays, campers will have the option to purchase pizza for lunch; information will be available each week about “Pizza Wednesdays.”
